Thank you for your interest in becoming an AVID tutor!

As a tutor you will participate in an initial 6 hour training to learn the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) curriculum. You will then work with a small group twice a week of 7th or 8th grade students in a high needs Philadelphia public school near to your College or University.

AVID focuses on college readiness and study skills with the goal of creating an environment of commitment to long term educational and personal goals. AVID is part of the larger GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Program) initiative implemented by the School District of Philadelphia.

Being an AVID tutor is a great way to gain classroom experience, build your resume and jumpstart your academic career through being part of a nationally recognized tutoring program. Most importantly AVID tutors are participating in a student and family focused program that is working on not only getting more young people in Philadelphia in to college but in helping to keep them there and work towards a successful career.
